Why Purchase Solid Hardwood Furniture that is Made in the USA?
Insist on quality furniture and the true value of a generational heirloom.
There are many benefits in purchasing quality handcrafted furniture that will last for generations and provide the greatest real value. It is wise to insist on quality furniture that will endure, provide decades of functionality and become treasured heirlooms. With Spiritcraft Design, our solid hardwood furniture is designed and handcrafted to heirloom quality standards in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Please let us explain why quality is indeed the very best value and why you should insist on quality now, more than ever.
What ever happened to quality furniture?
When it comes to furniture selection, we are all becoming too familiar with the sub-par quality of products in this "throw away age". Furniture is no exception to this phenomenon and real value is attained by insisting on quality hardwood furniture rather than accepting false value and inferior quality. Quality furniture is harder to find today but there is no real value in furniture that lasts five years rather than generations. For tables, beds, casework, entertainment centers and other furniture, true value lies in solid hardwood furniture that will become a family heirloom rather than landfill material.
The recent off-shoring trend has taken a severe toll on furniture quality and these inferior products are often deliberately marketed in such a way that quality is only an unfortunate afterthought. There are many pieces of furniture available through stores or interior designers that may indeed look nice until a closer inspection is performed. Many of these pieces are entirely made of MDF or pressboard with paper thin veneers laminating the sub-par structure.
Don't fall for slick marketing ploys that divert attention from quality.
With much of this furniture, the joinery is indeed suspect while the finish in "Dark Walnut", "Espresso", "Coffee" or other such names is just a trendy marketing tool to hide the inferior quality beneath. These deliberately trendy finish names have been very successful in creating a market for suspect furniture whose lifespan is quite short. Additionally, with the weak MDF structure and paper thin veneers, there is no restoration possible unlike true hardwood furniture. It is not uncommon today for an inferior made five year old $800 end table to be placed on the curb due to it simply falling apart.
Indeed, there are only a fraction of quality furniture options as compared to only 10 years ago. Many popular names who made heirloom furniture for generations in the US such as Ethan Allen and Pennsylvania House have moved to China or Vietnam. While there is some quality furniture being imported, the vast majority of the furniture available today is very questionable in terms of quality. We as consumers should remember that "value" is not entirely reflected in the initial price of an item and quality does matter. In addition, support of local craftspersons helps our local economy and strengthens the community. An interesting note: We actually employ some fine high quality American Made woodworking machinery that we purchased from Ethan Allen and Henredon when they abandoned their US plants!
Rediscover Quality and Value: Fine Hardwood Furniture, Made in the USA
Solid Hardwood Furniture handcrafted with traditional joinery will stand the test of time and represents true value.
While heirloom quality furniture may seem to be a bit more expensive initially, one really only has to look at what is commonly available to discover that value is determine by more than the initial purchase price. We as consumers should remember that "value" is not entirely reflected in the initial price of an item and quality does matter. As an example, a Spiritcraft Design cocktail table might well outlive ten to twenty tables that a someone might buy at a furniture store today. When comparing Spiritcraft price points to other quality names, we try to outdo Thos Moser or Stickley quality for instance but offer our pieces at nearly half the price.
